Henry Purcell | Strike The Viol, cello solo and cello ensemble
Transcription for Cello and Cello ensemble by Giovanni Sollima.
"Strike The Viol" by Henry Purcell is one of the coolest pieces in music history. It’s built on a ground bass and has a couple of versions by the same composer, essentially for voice. However, as in many cases, the vocal line is entrusted to an instrument. In those arrangements of mine, I was also freely inspired by Purcell's beautiful Fantasies for viol consort. This version is for a cello solo surrounded by a cello choir.
