G. Magrini (1857-1926) has been a pivotal figure as a cellist in Italy. Based in Milan, he’s been cello principal in La Scala for 25 years, having thus played with foremost composers like Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Massenet, Gomes, and so on. His 43 years tenure as cello professor in the Conservatorio in Milan shows his profound knowledge of every aspect of the technique, deeply rooted in the Neapolitan tradition (he's been formed by Laboccetta and Giarritiello, both disciples of G. Ciandelli). This virtuoso Études have been published in 1914 and they synthesize the main qualities of his brilliant playing.
